Earlier this year, Mapa has already enabled 90 Brazilian companies to export corn to China, bringing this number to 446. This is great news for producers, as it opens up new possibilities for the international market.
“The outlook for this year is record in Brazilian corn exports with the possibility of Brazil surpassing the exports of corn from the United States”, says the Secretary of Agricultural Defense, Carlos Goulart.
In 2023, Brazilian corn export numbers increased significantly, with China absorbing 15% of supply. The Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) reported that Brazilian corn exports grew 167% over the same period the previous year.
According to the agreement signed in 2022, it is the responsibility of Mapa to register Brazilian companies that meet all the requirements established by China to export corn. After registration in Brazil, the Ministry sends to the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC in the acronym in English) the list of qualified companies and then, with confirmation by the Chinese, these companies can start sending that grain there.
