Mapa and MCom will work together to enable connectivity to rural areas through the National Digital Inclusion Plan. This is the first time that the Telecommunications Services Universalization Fund (FUST) will be used for this purpose.

Last Thursday (9), the minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Favaro, and the minister of communications, Juscelino Filho, met at the headquarters of Mapa to discuss proposals to bring internet access to the approximately 25 million Brazilians who do not yet have connectivity.

According to Favaro, access to the internet in the agricultural area is of great importance to promote dignity and improve the quality of life of workers and field workers.“With precision agriculture, using high technology, we can produce more and better, in a sustainable way, directly impacting the gross value of production”, explained Favaro.

The Ministry of Communications plans to release a notice in collaboration with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) to expand rural connectivity with Fust funds in the coming weeks.

“President Lula, who is the father of 'Luz for All’, will be the father of 'INternet for all’. And the field will undergo a revolution with this”, concluded Minister Carlos Favaro.
